System Notifications

Pathfinder provides several messaging options for organizations to receive notifications for new CDM Reports, service updates, and completion of process jobs.

Notifications are delivered by common messaging services such as email or SMS, or via communications platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams. Notification rules govern when notifications are sent based on your space safety requirements, and can be set up for individual assets or entire constellations.

User Role limitations

Both Admins and Users can view all notification rules for their organization. Users can modify their own rules, while Admins have the authority to modify user- and organization-level notification rules.

Notification Rules List

All current notification rules for an organization appear under ⚙️ Preferences > Notifications. Each list entry shows the rule name and displays rule statistics such as last notification sent, notification type, and the total number of notifications that have been sent for this rule.

Creating a New Rule

To begin configuring a new notification rule, select New notification method, or Clone an existing rule.

Service configuration

Add a descriptive Title for the new rule that will be displayed on the Rules list. Optional Notes are available to mark down additional details such as who created the rule, or how the rule is meant to be used. Finally, select the Service that will receive Pathfinder notifications. The following services are currently available:

  • Messaging Services   Email (Self or Organization) / SMS (Self)
  • Communication Platforms   Slack / Microsoft Teams / Google Chat / Mattermost
  • Generic Webhooks   General services that can accept a webhook
Organization notifications

Only an Administrator can create an Organization level Email service notification. All other notification services are available to both user roles.

Additional setup

Additional information may be required depending on the service selected. SMS requires a valid phone number, while Communications Platforms and Generic Webhooks methods will require the valid URL for that platform. The Email service uses the logged in user's email address.

Notification Type

Select the notification type for this rule. Pathfinder supports the following notification types:

  • Incoming CDM Reports   A notification is sent when Pathfinder receives a new CDM Report
    • Batch   A summary of received CDMs that do not exceed the defined thresholds
    • Individual   Information about each CDM that exceeds the defined thresholds

Defining thresholds

Once a notification rule type is selected, the following threshold rules become available for configuration:

  • Miss Distance   If the total miss distance is below this value a notification will be sent
  • Probability of Collision   If the probability of collision is above this value a notification will be sent
  • Combined Behavior   Require both (AND) threshold rules or either (OR) before sending the notification

Ignoring a threshold

If not all thresholds are needed, other threshold values can be turned off by checking Ignore this value. The defined Combined Behavior will not consider ignored thresholds.

Asset Selection

Spacecraft can be added individually, by constellation, or be selected from multiple constellations. Assets can be searched by NORAD ID via the table search, or selected from their constellation page listing. To add an entire constellation, select the Link icon 🔗 next to the desired constellation in the Constellations list.

The total count of currently selected spacecraft will be displayed next to the constellation name.

Review and Submission

A complete summary of the notification rule configuration is provided for review. If there are issues, navigate to the configuration section by selecting Change for that section. Once all information is correct, the rule configuration can be submitted and will begin sending notifications.

caution

If any issues are encountered during submission, an error will be displayed on the notifications page. The error will provide additional information on why the rule configuration submission failed. If the submission fails more than once, please reach out to your Pathfinder Administrator.

Managing Rules

All current notification rules for an organization appear under ⚙️ Preferences > Notifications tab. Each list entry shows the rule name and displays rule statistics such as last notification sent, notification type, and the total number of notifications that have been sent for this rule.

Edit or Clone

Existing notification rules can be edited or cloned. Edit will redirect the user to the rule's service configuration page, while Clone will create a new record of the notification rule before opening the copied rule's configuration page. The original notification rule is not modified during cloning.

Pause and Resume

New rules will begin running immediately after being created. Pause will prevent new notifications from being sent for a rule configuration, and Resume will reactivate a paused rule. Active rules will not show a resume option.

Remove a Rule

Delete an existing notification rule by choosing Remove. No new notifications will be sent for the deleted rule.

danger

Deleting a notification rule configuration is a permanent action that cannot be reversed. The record history will be deleted entirely, and metadata such as total count and last notification sent will be lost.
